I’ve been away for a long time. Since July 31st, 2013, to be precise. That’s something like 4 and a half years, I think. In terms of my dreams of publishing books for a living, that’s called failure. In terms of my dreams of writing influential material here on this website, that’s also called failure. I suppose that’s why I gave up.
But all is not lost! The last time I was posting here I was drafting query letters in search of a literary agent to sell my book, Beyond the Wasteland. Guess what, that didn’t work! But in November of 2013 I gave up the hope of finding an agent when I heard about Createspace, Amazon’s print-on-demand publishing platform. November and December of 2013 were spent painstakingly grooming the manuscript for printing, and in January I received 5 printed proofs. I gave all of them away, became dissatisfied with the book, and shelved it for the next four years while I went through some very painful, very personal things.
Now here we are, 4 and a half years later. The book is available online (though I can count the number of copies sold on both hands), I have more copies in the mail, and I’m working on my next projects. The road has been long and slow and not at all what I ever thought it would be. I mean, common, I was supposed to be a millionaire already, helping other struggling writers to find success. Maybe I shouldn’t have set my hopes so high, or maybe I didn’t set them high enough. I don’t know.
If you’re reading this, then there’s still hope. Leave a comment, because I need to know you’re out there. Then click on “Beyond the Wasteland” above and head over to Amazon to buy a copy of the book if you haven’t already.
